.. when the LFS attendant makes a comment like "you know what your getting yourself into"? Got this reaction after picking up a pbass and telling him I only had one in the tank, same when I picked up my red wolf fish. I just laugh and say oh yeah lol

Think its a good question, to many do not.

He is doing his job. Its better then him selling you a fish you have no business keeping.

I in a lot of ways wishes they would ask or say something... Too many times stores have seen me looking at a fish, such as an MBU puffer and started asking me questions to gauge my interest...

Then when i tell them i like the fish but only have a 200G (which wont work for this fish) they almost always say thats plenty of space, and mention how most people who buy them keep them in tanks 4' in length or less...

I naturally understand its a business, but cant bare to imagine how many large fish are suffering due to not getting correct info...

Oh yeah its for sure are good thing that they do but I assume anyone who gets a fish has done research on it beforehand and knows a bit of something about them and how to keep them well... hell even a quick search on your smartphone in the store helps a lot if something catches your eye and you don't know anything about it.

its quite sad to realize a lot of people go into fish stores, buy anything that catches their eye w/o knowing anything about the fish or if their tank chemistry is correct for them, let alone tank size and diet.. I didn't realize this was such an issue when I made the thread but I've talked to a couple LFS managers that have said people wanted to put pbass in a 20 ga or , more commonly, an Oscar in a small >40 ga tank. By this time anyone who I get fish from locally knows I know what I'm getting and that I can properly care for the fish. Its almost to the point of a joke w/ one of them haha I can usually tell them more about the fish I'm getting then they know themselves

I think your assumption is off by about 90%...

I have nothing to back that up, but seeing the people at Petsmart or even the local LFS leads me to believe it's pretty accurate.

Well that's what got me into this in the first place. I got a datnoid from my LFS and put it in a 30g, then realized it was a mistake.

Oh I know I hadn't realized this before yesterday when I was talking to an LFS manager
