Hi,

I'm asking because i'm from Quebec,Canada. I got a phone call on my cell from a film school in Los Angeles. I could potentialy go study there in the future. I may eventually go there in the future for something else.

My question is how do you get around using the public transit ? Can you go from Los Angeles to Santa Monica Pier using public transit ?

Lakewood here!! Yes the Metro public transportation system is pretty good. I use it everyday. It's comprised of trains and busses, its fairly reliable and cheap. However it can be crowded, be prepared to ride with weirdos, transients, idiots, and the like.

I couldn't imagine living in Los angeles without a car...

I did live in Los angeles for about 6 or 7 years, did the bus for a short 2 months and bought a crap car, but way better than public transport.

Many many weirdos on the bus and trains in La.

While I do hate riding the Metro, it still is cheaper, faster, and easier than driving. I work in metro LA and the traffic is horrible going in and getting out of there. The metro rail whizzes by the traffic. And where I work there's NO parking. There is a waiting list for parking in the underground garage, or pay $16 a day. OR you get to work 30-45 mins early try and find street parking 4-5 blocks over.
Bus and rail drops me off nearly in front of my building.

I'm sure those are way faster, but where I lived and work there was only buses. They stop at every stop, and people take their time to put in correct change and etc.. i had to leave hours before work to make it on time. Car was just so much more simple in my case.
