This is a really far fetched question. But, is anyone from Taiwan? I'm in Taipei, and love fishing. I've been here two years, and cannot find any real fishermen here. I'm not talking about the ones that go out once a year, and if lucky, catch something. I've met too many of those here already. I'm talking about people that really know what they are doing.

There is a lack of real fisherman here. Every time I walk into the tackle shop, all they offer is me is dough bait for any kind of fish I'm after, even tilapia. They have red dough for tilapia, brown for grass carp, rice dough for the smaller ones. After a while, I started to hate asking about what to use. I guess all the cool fisherman are in Japan, Malayasia, Singapore, and places where I'm not.
I have not found a real fishing spot in or around Taichung. I have had a few offers from Taiwanese friends to take me the ponds near the port but I want to fish for wild fish, not canned fishing.

I'm going to try Yilan River for some snakeheads. I've seen some pictures of channa striata. Yes, it's a pity that no one fishes around here. Also, snakeheads are native to sun moon lake. I've been catching lots of tilapia and tilapia, and tired of catching them.
