I saw certain a 4.5” baby BEC at LFS. Not the one in the pic though. And yes, It was labeled as P.Cochliodon. At first glance I agree but then I doubt it because...

-Its dorsal and caudal fins are greyish white with black trim.
-It has kinda dome-shaped head.

Still, it has NO spikes on its side. That’s why I doubt it.

Let’s say the coloration completely matches P.Suttonorum in the pic. Don’t know it was stressed coloration or not but I never seen BEC turns greyish white like that.

Thoughts?

Anyway, here it is. Courtesy of my local LFS:

It was ID as P.Cochliodon. 4.5” in size. I believe it to be BEC too but its greyish colors and that pale blue eyes really bugs me. Thoughts?

I think so. LFS confirmed it's from Columbia so it might be BEC but still... that color... don't know because it's stressed or not but looks very strange to me as my 12" is jet black all the time.

100% BEC - no question.

As for the color, it's stressed. Also if that's a white background I'm seeing, it may contribute to the fish's current lighter coloring.
