i just wanted to find out the stage my micros are at by their colour change!

anyone got any pics basically showing the stages in a micro's growth via colour? mine are turning green...its like they are in army colours. like the red has gone, but green/yellow is starting to appear, especiall when they've just hunted (aka feeders :D) then i can see the colours show up as really metallic green and yellows!

Do you mind me asking, how many tanks have you got?
and how big is your biggest?
as i was wondering what the minimum tank size requirement is for micropeltis.
I am only just getting started in the big fish.

Thanks, Danny

hi danny
i think micro's get huge, around 4ft n are really super aggressive, from what iv read you need an 8ft x 3ft x ?? just to keep 1. i wouldnt touch 1 wi a bargepole, gorgeous fish n change so much from bein young to fully grown but i just couldnt house 1, not many people could, deffo a species for the very experienced keeper.

right now i have a young group of micros in a 200gal. they are juvies, and doing well :D

uhm building a 800gal+ tank in the process - was in a bit of a dilemma as to whether i should get a tropical pond or just do the big display tank thing, but then i finally decided if i have to move my micros out quickly, like obviously i can estimate how much time i've got my how much mine are growing then i'll just get a tropical pond as a quicker solution but im definitely having a display tank up for them.

BUMP!

there's like absolutely nothing about these guys on the internet. i tried to google it but all i came up with was "have you seen this fish?! if you have then kill it by cutting/bleeding it dry and it can survive out of water"

hahahahaa :D.

guess there's not much on google about rearing them, huh.

anyone know of any snakehead forums? i was on one called SH UK but they closed i think.

Holly shhhhh.. Neer you bought a group of channa micropeltes!!
Thats a bold step! They get HUGE quickly. I would get a display tank instead of a tropical pond but it will be expensive. I think 12ftx4-5ftx3ft LxWxH would be considered a minimum for a couple of fully grown channa micropeltes Given that 3ft is a good adult size in captivity.
There were a couple of snakehead forums last time a checked, i joined SH UK when i got a channa pleurophthalma. What a stunning fish it was. My brother has it now down at uni in his tank lol, he thought it was amazing so bought it off me for his 4x2x2 its about 5" and has great markings.
Do you have any pics of them, id love to see them.

tom!!!! how have you been?! long time no see...:D

uhm yeah i couldn't resist when pete gave me my first group then another friend rang me up saying some had just come in at wildwoods i was like i have to have them noooooooow! will post some more pics and vids up soon :D you can see my micros in the other threads on this forum - i thought i was going to lose one recently because he got caught in my canister! but he survived so is now back to normal.

they grow sooo quickly!!! like the one that was injured didn't eat for about 2-3 days because he couldnt see his food due to cloudy eyes and the only way i can spot the difference now is by size!!! the others are slightly bigger than him but for only a few days in between i'd say that's astonishing growth rate!!!

will post some more pics up tonight but i think everyone's getting bored of seeing them on here :D

Hi,yes building a 800 gallon tank is a good solution, micros need all of the space you can give them, especially when they are kept in groups!

yeah, also i think i need a heater guard now because i've noticed one of my micros keeps on trying to play with it and its knocking against my glass! now i'm sort of worrying if he will break it. hopefully he wont play with it during the night - tomorrow im going to get one from the lfs.
