Anyone got gulper catfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea...typical of most gulpers. Underestimate their ability to take down big fish. Haven’t had some for a while now....interesting fish.

I have 2 in a 55... They are pretty boring really until you go there feed them, I'm able to hand feed mine frozen shrimp and tilapia... I do think its cool watching them swim around kinda like a shark just cruising like he's the boss

They seem indeed more active but it'd take a more rigorous, controlled side-by-side experiment to be certain. Until then, it's a maybe / seems so.

As you can see, accidents can happen then. They really must be with fish they cannot fit in their mouth by any stretch of imagination and any stretch of their mouth :)

Large synos look to be beefy enough... Synodontis/gulper catfish tank might be interesting

If you were talking about my tank where I have 4 synos and 3 gulpers, I'd say the synos (two eupterus and two hybrids) are not large enough to be 100% safe.

I'd say given the reputation of Gulpers, even if it was a 2" gulper and a full grown syno they wouldn't be 100% safe. Although, I can't help but laugh at the thought of a syno frantically swimming around the tank trying to shake a gulper off that's swallowed its fin.
