Hi,

I got so much Anubias nana I am now just experimenting with it. I took out a nice piece and put it into a pot with garden soil. I did not bury the rhizome and I covered only the roots. I also placed a small bowl under the pot filled with water so that the plant's roots are always wet. After a few days the leaves got wrinkly and now crispy. But the rhizome and roots still look healthy. I figured the leaves would die out going from immersed to emersed conditions. I think I am gonna clip the leaves off so that new leaves might grow. I keep the plant in shade right now indoors.

I've never actually tried reversing the process... but be sure to let us know how it goes... as i may one day try this with one my anubias plants as well...

After doing a little reading it is completely possible and many people do it. Anubias is a true bog plant not really an aquatic plant like it is most used. I hear it actually grows better emersed.

Yeah, a lot of stores here actually sell them out of water, and have misters above them that spray them periodically to keep them wet... i guess its a way to help get them growing faster...

the key is high humidity. i tried many different ways of growing it emersed and it always needed a humid enviroment. my best method is growing it on styro rafts in aquariums. cut a square of styro, poke a hole in the middle and put the roots through the hole. the humidity under the covered tank mixed with the bright light gives me very fast growth and no dead or wrinkled leaves

+1 , works well in covered tanks with fluorescent lights. won't work with open tank ( actually depends on where you located , same story high humidity).
