Was wondering if anyone has had much experience with Aquatop heaters?

I've got an Aquatop GH300W in my 75g gallon, and I've noticed in the last week or so, it's on almost 24/7 and the aquarium is only at 74ºF, it's only maybe 5 months old, 6 max (I'd have to dig out the receipt) and it used to have no problem holding my tank at a steady 82ºF, same temperature conditions in my house, if not actually cooler, as I got it in the spring.

Anyone else had this happen? I was expecting a longer lifespan than 6 months... Am just trying to determine if this is a trend with this particular product, as I also have one of their canister filters, and never had a single issue with it at all yet.

I'm also e-mailing Aquatop to see what they say.

Thanks!

edit: After finding my original warranty (though not receipt) it only has a 6 month warranty, which is almost exactly how long I've had it (off the top of my head) leading me to believe this may be an intended failure. Just after the warranty, necessitating another purchase (definitely not Aquatop though).

You honestly believe the heater was designed to fail just outside the warranty? I smell conspiracy!!!

It would be a lot harder to design it to fail after six months than it would to make one that functioned regularly lol

That's true, but I have worked in production manufacturing before and seen components used that were substandard and was told "it's ok, they'll last until the warranty is up."
Anymore it's all about the bottom line. Glad I'm out of production work. I can take pride in what I do now because everything rests on me, not components chosen by a bean counter somewhere because they were cheaper...
/rant off

Trying to run down my receipt and get a date on it to confirm whether it's out of warranty or not to get a replacement. If I can get a free replacement, I will, but will also be buying something else to have ready as a backup in case this happens again in 6 months.
