Anyone have any experience with the Penn Plax Cascade 1000

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cascades are noisy but for the price the flowrates are very good. I wouldn't put it in your bedroom or tv room

Have a cascade 1500 on my 55gl. Works very well, easy to maintain and it's a workhorse. As far as noise, I have it in my room and at first it's noticeable(won't stop you sleeping probably) but then your brain is trained to ignore it.

I would recommend the unit.

I have a cascade 1000 running less than ten feet from where I sit watching tv in my living room. The bubbles breaking the surface of the water from my air pump make more noise than the filter. It's easy to maintain, easy to prime and has great flow. I have no complaints for the money.

The Cascade 1000 is a very nice unit for the money. I do not find it that noisy at all. I got mine when I purchased a used 65g and the guy had just bought the filter before he decided to get out of the hobby.

I was very impressed with what you got for the money so when I set up my 120g I went with 2 Cascade 1500 and am very happy with this choice.

The only downside to the Cascades is the lack of media. You should add some bio media which can add about $20 more per filter.

Had mine for 7 years i think? Never hear it running. Even sucked up sand and filled itself 3/4 full. Still silent!
