Well i got my 4-5" gulper wedsday around 4 oclock, and he seems happy and healthy and is very active in his tank. Even loves to be pet and have his belly rubbed, i mean he doesnt look skinny at all but id like to get him eating and its been 4 days now. Ive tried nightcrawlers and cut up raw shrimp, theres even been a feeder fish in there with him since he got in there. Anyone have any ideas on feeding him, ive been trying hand feeding him, ive hung chunks in there with fishing line, ive had chunks just sit on the bottom and nothing seems to work. How long till i should start to get worried and should i start thinking about force feeding or anything like that? Thanks, Joey

definatly dont force feed it its just getting use to the tank it sometimes can take up to a week to feel comfortable i would put rosey reds in there not a feeder fish it might be too big

I would suggest getting some garlic extract and putting it on some shelled market shrimp. But, you havent had him for very long so unless he's loseing weight rapidly then its not a big problem. But like \/\/ateverzYo said, just put some rosey reds or whitecloud minnows in there when you turn the lights of at night. If he's comfortable he'l most likely eat a few if not all of them.

But like I said, if that doesnt work, get some small market shrimp and garlic extract. Most fish are attracted to garlic extract, they dont put it one fishbait for nothing.

mine took a 2 month break from eating and passed, be aware. he just stopped eating I tried everything even a pike cichlid.

Thanks guys, that makes me feal more comfortable. The feeder in there isnt a goldfish its like a bait fish more shaped like a rosey red, i got him from infinite aquatics and he said they were trained on shrimp and doesnt want me to give them a bunch of feeders but if a couple more days go by i might try putting a few more in there to give him a better chance at getting one of them. Im just kinda worried since this is the first time i bought a more expensive fish, the next most is prob my jurunese cat. oh and maybe ill try the garlic trick also... i dont have to worry aboout it fuggin with my water? Thanks again guys for making me feel better about this, its been 4 days now that he hasnt ate so im gonna hope for by dady 7 he will eat. If not the night of day 8 ill throw in some feeders.

edit: just saw the post above me, i guess all the replys cant be good.... and i was JUST about to go to bed without worrys lol i knew it was to good to be true

The garlic extract shouldnt mess with your water.
Lots of people use it to get fish to take to shrimp. Like I said, shell the shrimp, put the garlix extract powder in some water, kind of like a broth and put the shrimp into it for a little while so it soaks up the garlic "broth" basicly like marinating a steak.

But, if he is still in good health dont over worry about it. I'm sure you'll get him eating soon enough.
