I find these guys pretty facinating..always moving.. kind of pretty in their own way..just wondering if anyone has some personal info on them.. here are my two..they are about 6 inches.. wonder how long they take to grow to maturity..

A member here (delgado) used to have a pair that were 12". He got rid of them though cuz they always bothered his other fish.

Yeah, Del should be around later to give you his take on them.

Mine don't bother the oscars at all..they were raised with angels and they did not bother them either..had to move them out of the angel tank because they were getting too big.. i wonder what kind of fish he had that they bothered?

I've never had them personally because I hear that they will eventually turn Saltwater. And I hear they can grow up to around 2' range.

Del said his bothered his aro and he had some others but I don't remember what they were.

some years back I had a pair. I got them at about 3" I kept them with six convicts that were constantly breeding the only thing I fed them was fish eggs from wild fish when I used to commercial fish. O ther than that they just picked off the convict fry. One grew slightly larger than the other but were both over a foot before I sold them.

As they mature u will need to add more and more salt untill u end up with a brackish tank.

They live best in brackish water, which is made by adding about one Tablespoon of Aquarium Salt to each five gallons of aquarium water

wow good thing i posted this because this is the first i heard about them becoming brackish or salt water fish as they mature.. are these definitly Columbian's..first i want to make sure of identity..since i have always called them silver tip cats..but now i definitly will do more research.. maybe mine do not bother other fish because they are still young ..maybe they get that way later as they mature..i knew they got big.. thanks for all the info.

I can see how they would bother an Arrow since they are so active and are everywhere in the tank at any given moment.. i would not want them in with my Arrow and giving him an excuse to jump.. Arrows don't need an excuse but i can see how these cats would make the arrow nervous and aggrivated by their presence..
