I posted this in the eel section but didnt get any hits, so throwing this up here hopefully for some feedback...

Whether it be for spiny eels / morays or any carnivorous fish really, anyone got a try and tested food DIY gelatin food recipe???

I ask coz i've got left over "dust" from FD krill etc, that i was thinking of mixing with frozen shrimp, mussels etc to turn into a geltain food to try and feed my eels...

Only problem is i've seen quite a few fish food gelatin recipes, but none that really contain what im after...

So if you got a recipe please let me know how you made it, ingredients etc and if it worked out for you or not? Especially if tried on eels...

Thanks in adavnce!!!

I've been making gelatin food for my p's since they were babies and they're almost 2 now.

I use various types of fish...every batch is different eg. salmon, trout, cod, haddock, halibut etc...crushed up pellets (in your case, you can use krill dust), naturose astaxanthin, vitachem, a type of vegetable eg. carrots, peas, squash etc...then throw in the blender, mix with a half cup of gelatin/water and freeze in ice cube trays.

To be honest, it doesn't have much nutritional value since it consists mostly of water so I don't feed it to them every day. But they seem to love it so it's all good...

I've always done a triple mix of massivore, carnivore pellets, and Thera+ pellets with the half cup of water/gelatin. My loaches love it but I don't have any spiny eels currently to test it on.

I'm surprised to hear you say it doesnt have much nutritional value? I thought it would make for a decent alternative...

Also curious as to what naturose astaxanthin is, and why you add it?

Interesting, so you just use 3 pellet types and call it a day?

yup, pellets only. I've thought about doing a frozen gel food too, with tilapia or whatever fish I have on hand, it would seem souzie has that on lockdown though haha, I was always skeptical of the water content in the food vs. how much I'd need to use with the gelatin.

Yep. RD. RD. can probably explain it better.

I use astaxanthin to enhance the color of their bellies...LOL...and this certain brand is supposed to boost immunity and stress resistance. I can't attest to whether or not that's true, but my fish have never been sick since I got them...

LOL...oh dude...I alternate between carnivore and NLS pellets but my reds are in love with the carnivore/peas combination. Doesn't matter what types of fish I put in there.

You should try it with your guy...if you haven't already shipped him to tomojsg tomojsg yet

hahaha tomo isn't getting my fish! I'll have to try it, I'd be surprised if he takes a gel food at all...he's been conditioned on tilapia and shrimp his entire life, I'd have to starve him quite a while if he'd change at all.
