I am looking for any information on the following things.
(this will be so that the threat of asian arowana breeding in the wild and establishing a wild population outside the equatorial zone can be assessed.)
i know it sounds silly because even populations in the wild are on the decrease in their natural range but this must be done before arows can be made legal here in oz.

i seek information on ANY introductions of arowana outside the equatorial zone. that being places outside the natural asian arowana distribution, and whether there has been an establishment in the wild or breeding in ponds in these places or not.

i imagine that not many would let go arows but it may be that it is written in books or linked on the web somewhere that asian arowana have been attempted to breed on farms in brazil, south america. thailand etc.?

there is one documented introduction in a science web site to the effect that asian arowana was introduced to China, while estabishment seems unlikley or remote, it has been listed as unkown. i am hoping to have this proved as not established..

can anyone recall reading anything like this. while it may seem trivial. this can be the difference between making the fish legal in australia.

One more thing, where can i find a list of the countries that allow import of asian arowana, this can show that the fish is present in the aquarium industry of these places for years and has not resulted in wild populations.. and maybe there is a list with numbers permitted to be traded in these places?

I am sure that some people here have come across these things in the past and it would be very good if you could please share this info.

cheers.

thanks very much g shock, i do have that one and the japanese breeder, it is good in that it shows only a few cases of in tank breeding. however it will not actually reduce the risk score because the score system does not take into account of breeding hardship or non breeding outside native areas unless i can find some in pond or in river scenarios.
these are examples of mans intervention.
there was a claim a specimen was found on christmas isaland but i can not find a reference. i dont even know if the place has enough freshwater!

i have a direction for you. go to panda aquatic of singapore website then upload the ebook.
after reading that, you will notice some reference to the story that was published in an american fish keeping/hobbyist magazine many years back, although i can find a copy of the magazine it does explain how hiroshi ( i think) spent 20 odd years researching and attempting to breed etc.
he started with a pre determined pair. the other reference i had i did not save sorry..but it tells the story in more detail. if you wanted to go further you could try track down the specific article.

also i found a reference to the release of an arow into a pool on christmas island. it never resulted in breeding due in part to only one specimen but also even if they could breed at that latitude it turns out there is no freshwater rivers only small pools.
