Why would somebody line breed ugly? Also ,why would they call them red when they're not ? I think it is a northern burundi that isn't that colorful, so they're calling it a red (cuz it lacks blue)for marketing purposes.
I actually have one I bought when I first got into chiclids. I was told they are a genetic defect and the color never fully developed into black. But I never really looked into it more and can say he is now almost 3 years and his color is the same as when I bought him. They also grow very slow, even more slow then other fronts. Mine has a very cool personality and I will keep him til he passes along.
the dude at the lfs say when they bigger they will have orange color and not red. They should call it orange frontosa instead since it got no red in it.
