Agree with Tom, comes from the medium to fast flowing rivers of Panama in the northern most end of its range, south into the Magdalena river system in Colombia.
Males can reach 30" females 1/3 smaller so will need a tank with a minimum of about 500 gallons as an adult.

Yup, you've got yourself an umbee, one of the largest growing and most aggressive cichlids. Looks there are lots of tankmates- that may not last!
