well i was going to go out and buy a new 60 gallon hex due to lack of space in one of the rooms i want to put a tank in. but my aunt offered me her old 35 gallon hex tank for FREE.. i know it isnt the biggest but im just wondering what you guys put in your hex tanks?

What would be something good to put in a 35 gallon hex tank? i was thinking a planted tank with driftwood and some tetras?

I have a tiny 5 gallon hex I got for free. I just have a betta and some snails in it. I think a hex would make a great invert tank or a liverbearer tank.

I had a similar size tank, found it hard to get adiquate lighting for planted tank.

Get Swords/ferns for plants and get neon tetras or rummy nose tetras and a Bristle nosed pleco or peperment pleco. :headbang2

if this will be a corner tank or against the wall paint the panels of glass which are facing the wall.

I am not fond of hex tanks as they mean you have to keep smaller fish than a rectangular tank the same gallonage would allow. They are great for clouds of colorful tetras and rasboras. You can bump the wattage for a planted tank by retrofitting a compact flourescent fitting in place of the currwent one.

i have a 30 salt tank. stacked live rock up yhe middle looks pretty cool. saddle puffer, yellow damsel, cardinal

Yup, that should work.

Add in a few corys or small loaches for the bottom, some guppys or dwarf gourmai for the top.

With the tall tanks like that the levels of the tank are even more pronounced than a normal horizontal tank and you tend to have smaller fish because the smaller footprint. So try and stock all the levels with appropriate fish and it will look good.

I have a hex tank approx 20 gal, it has neons, guppys, zebra loaches and a small pleco in it at the moment, works fine.

Cheers

thanks everyone.. i know the foot print isnt i deal but the price is:headbang2

not to mention i am soon to have another 75 gallon tank and a 55 gallon in my room if everything works out the way i want it to:nilly:

I've got a 44g pentagon w/stand I got on Craigslist for next to nothing. I hate it. All those seams--it sprang a leak in the spring while I was at work, I came home to about 15 gallons drained onto rug in my bedroom (in a trailer, no less) and I ended up losing all my F1 Taiwan Reef juvies. Blows more than a whale . . . . :FIREdevil
