I recently finished college this summer and I decided that I wanted to be in the occupational health, safety, and environment field. I've also decided that I will pursue an M.S. in the same field.

I really wanted to concentrate on the environmental part but having a B.S. is almost always a pre-requisite if going to graduate school. Unfortunately, I don't have a B.S. although I have a minor in environmental systems.

I'm just wondering how is the job outlook in this field? Anyone have first hand experience in it? How was it? I'm already a some type of safety coordinator in my job making safety programs for the workers in the chemical production plant. I was previously a shipment specialist wherein I ship hazardous and non-hazardous domestically and all over the world.

I appreciate all your input.

I'm not in the field, but a family member and friend are. I interned at a huge aerospace place this summer and their safety department seemed to be growing.

My buddy graduated last spring with an EHS degree. He had a few internships while in school but went the summer unemployed. But recently found a job at an engineering consulting firm. From what i know, the program (4 year) didn't get very in depth into the enviro (chemical) aspect of things.
Anyways, compared to other recent grads...he has had far better luck.

Thanks bro. From what I experienced and read upon, the knowledge in the field is actually learned on the job. I didn't know anything about chemical hazards as well as the different DOT and FAA regulations until I worked where I am right now.

It also seems like the safety and occupational health part gets the most attention in general industry unless you are in a chemical manufacturing olant like myself.
