So I've got some money, a garage, tools, and plenty of time on my hands. My dad asked if I had any interest in a project car. Now, I've been thinking about one for a LONG time, and his asking me sealed the deal.

I did some searching and found a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX with just over 40k. The price is really good and the car is really clean. I was thinking of buying it and using it as a daily driver, but with plenty of power. I've driven a GSX once and it blew me away. It ripped through the gears like noone's business.

Now, the only thing keeping me from buying the car is reliability. ANyone own one, or heard reports on how these things last? Mitsubishis were never on top when it comes to reliability. My buddy's high horsepower Evo has had nothing but problems since day one and I don't want that.
 
any turbo'd or rebuilt motor will last as long as its built correctly and have the right tuning. tuning will play the most important role in how long your motor will last.
 
My plans for the car are very realistic. There won't be any huge turbo or high compression motor. The way I see it working out, it will get the basic motor mods (exhaust, intake, intercooler, etc) and the suspension and wheel department will get a major overhaul.
 
dont try racing this GSX.. this one is my brothers and even the turbo
is upgraded :) Hes got a sleeper setup to bslap the ricey cars.

DSM's are great cars, the only problem is getting one that hasn't had the tar beaten out of it. Which most have.

I've got very little experience with them, but from what I'm told, they are pretty reliable.

But its still his fault for not telling me that a manual car WILL MOVE

if u just want a daily driver get a honda b16 dohc motor with vtec. powerfull and good for 200k miles

if u want a realy fast well handling car get the mitsu.

turbo all wheel drive eclipse

high performance equals more work. thbings break and need to be rebuilt

i drive a turbo car and its worth rebuilding the turbo every 50k and doing more maintenance. to get a 4banger to run 250fpt and still get 30 mpg it takes work.

have lots of agrivating fun
