The Demo and Big Hit are all broken down for winter repair and I find myself longing for some peddle action. Naturally, a BMX bike is the next best alternative to ride around campus and gap things, grind rails, etc. I have no idea when it comes to BMX, as FR/DH is my forte. Who's the best? Who should I avoid?

Bighit....demo, didn't think anyone else on MFK rides. I see you are in NJ, do you ride diablo at all?

I'm more into street/park than dh, i still ride 26" for that though. BMX bikes make everything easy, except being rigid/small as hell prevents me from being comfortable jumping and simple things such as dropping a 4 stair while riding campus.

ez boys... i ride fr n used to race duel... my local parks pritty tight n small, i use a rigid 24" for it in winter n it kills on that park...

Yeah I make it out there 5-6 times a year. I'm not thrilled with the idea of paying to ride, so the majority of my riding comes from our weekend place in upstate NY. We've got 3 pretty nice trails and 2 absolutely insane drops. I also ride the Ringwood NJ loop, but it sucks because neither of my rigs are built for pedaling lol. I'm going to part with one of my rides...most likely the Demo. Its 100% excess. Even though I love it, having $4000 tied up into a mountain bike is insane haha.

I'd say go for a small hardtail/rigid single speed mountain bike rather than a bmx. Maybe I'm spastic, but I found having both messed me up a bit, it took a while to get used to one after riding the other. If you're used to jumping a full suspension mktb, coming up short on a jump for the first time on a bmx is a big shock!! (as I found out the hard way...)

i don.t ride anymore but i collect old bmx bikes. from the 70's and 80's. got a hutch, robinson, old mongoose i picked up, unsure of the model but got to be close to 30 years old, diamond back formula 0ne. always looking for more.

I'm looking for a bike to take to car shows with me and ride wheelies and endos and hop curbs and stuff like that. I actually never realized how much BMX bikes are! $500 for something with no suspension and no brakes? wtf?

Spending $250 will suit you fine for what you want to do. BMX bikes and parts are cheap....something in the $1000 range for a bmx would be considered pro level. Whereas MTB's arent really high end until the $3k range, for new bikes at least. I could of got a sweet bmx for the cost of my fork (argyle 409) alone, haha.

I use to be into BMX back in the day. I still have my DK "Fury" in my basement. Yes, BMX bikes are expensive. I think my Fury was about $400 new, without the bells and whistles when I bought it in '96. I put another $200 bucks into it too.

HAHA it makes me sick to think that the cost of my wheels could buy me the best BMX bike out there. Anyway I did some searching and found the 2007 DK 8 pack? Its only $210. Worth it?
