Hello
Anyone keep albino RES or any Albino turtles? I ask as wanted to know if they are/go blind ,limited vision?

I have a male Florida Cooter and Male southern Map and was thinking of adding an albino (like the look) .

They are housed outside in water trough with haul out area so a blind or close to blind turtle won't work out.

Thanks

I dont keep any albino turtles (I wish:() but as it apears to be, normal albino res hatchlings do have some sigth limitation wich goes away with age, but there are other very cool albino morphs that have completly normal eye sigth and that can even be kept outside including tyrosine positive albino res, super hypo res and caramel pink res, all are however more expensive then normal albino res.

Thanks great help.

I have a friend here with turtles in a pond which is where I got mine but no Albino. Only has some pastels in spring and its the albinos I prefer.

I saw albinos last yr at turtle farm fairly inexpensive for albinos .

Never heard of the types you mentioned but going to look them up as want albino/white but nothing with weak vision esp since outside.

Thanks

Since you know people with them get the chance and go out to talk with them and see how they take care of the turts. Now there are many albino lineages available, so many colors to choose from.

I only one person with them and you would be surprised how little he knows.

He has a good size natural pond in his yard with turtles for yrs and they breed in the soil but other than few things I have gotten much more info from MFK.

Pastels I know he had last yr as regular RES are ilegal to sell and he did sell Pastels few calicos among regular color maps, etc.

I have never seen the albinos you mentioned but looked them up and very nice even came across lemon res . Granted twice as much as albino but albino is out of the question.

You know what is also very pretty the Leucistic Mississippi Map Turtle . Just came across pic of one.

Plan to see what turtle farm has early summer.

Thanks

Leucy and albino maps are very cool, but still mucho dinero.

i have an albino red ear.
he has always seemed to have a little trouble catching his pellets and other random food. he does get them but after a few tries. i would put duck weed or some thing to block the light so its not so direct. good luck. they are awesome looking. after a while you will just look at the albino as another turtle. i have mine with a rio grande

im actually wanting to raise a chinese soft shell albino but for some reason i never have luck with juvi softies. i do fine with others. i have an outdoor pond with over 30 turtles that i have raised from hatchling. but cant raise a softy. its frustrating. id buy an albino softy tomorrow if i knew itll be alright
