I was just wondering if anyone on here successfully keeps an African Arowana? I by no means have the tankspace for one at the moment, but would love to keep one in the future. I've read many articles and care guides online but the general consensus seems to be that they are difficult or even impossible to keep, primarily due to being filter feeders when young. But surely if anyone could be successful it'd be an MFKer, right? :D So if anyone here has any direct experience with them feel free to post any tips, tricks, or pictures.

Mods, if this has been posted before I apoligize and a link to the thread would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

You can check my afaro out in my pic thread (link in sig). These are older pics. I'll try for some new ones but, it's iffy since I'm making a move to TN at this time. The aro is pushing the 3 ft mark now. His diet is mainly hi-pro crumbles, sinking sticks, etc. But, he's started taking some of the live shiners I feed to the tropical gars sharing his tank.

Thanks for the reply Oddball! Your collection is incredible... I couldn't help but look through every page of pictures :jaw-dropp Glad to know that they can be kept with the right care, and I never would have thought of one really going after feeders based on most of what I have read.

I have 4 Africans now doing well I started with 5 lost 1, after reading everyone experiences, I found out the best way to keep them is feed them everytime I walked by the tank, live black worms, when I got them they were about 2 to 3", now they're about 6 to 8", the feeding is once or twice a day, I give them guppies or black worms, I'm starting to notice a lot more fighting between themselves, the other thing is they NEVER stop moving, it's almost like they're on speed, I have them with 6 other Aro's and when they come up to breath on top it's like 4 missiles, it sometimes spoke the other Aro's

wow biggest african iv seen besides oddballs
