Want to add one or two more bowfin. Would appreciate advice. Anybody have observations, problems encountered?
I know they are gregarious as young, but what about larger sizes. My current bow is about 17".
Thanks in advance.

the only problem I had was they would destroy my expensive lures while bass fishing. they are the pit bulls of the water.

Current tank is a 300, but more room is available. Just wanted to see if anyone had done this before.

I currently have a Bf that's right around 18" in a 200 gallon and gets along great with the cichlids he's in with. I had the exact same setup I do now but with 2 other Bfs of nearly equal size with him and he completely annihilated them.I only see Bowfins as a species that's aggressive towards it's own species and not others(as long as it can't fit in it's mouth). My Bowfin was even 12" when he first got introduced to my cichlid tank and I was worried that he'd rip em all up but it never happened,he specifically pointed out the other Bowfins, killed them both overnight and has never harmed another fish since.

That's what I was afraid of. My bow is petty tame towards his tankmates, but I could picture him getting pi$$y with another bow. Thank you very much for the info. I won't be trying this out firsthand.

I used to have 9 Large bowfins in a 300 gallon stock tank. Never had any problems. Fed them crayfish and goldfish. 4 males and five females.
