Anyone keep any sp of salamander? After seeing Kevin's pics of his, I discovered the tiger salamander. I must have one!!! So now Im searching for one. I can only find jumbo ones, which I have no interest in. Im after one that has just lost its gills and is specifically the barred tiger salamander.

Anyone keep any? If so what sp? Any pics?

I have kept the little brown ones that live in my backyard, some of them have even found their way onto my basement.I know, not salamanders but I have also kept Emperor newts...very cool....

I don't have any pictures of the newts that I had or of the salamanders.I will take a few shots though next time I come across some in my yard.

While working on shelter island, in a ground vault I was startled by a large one (eastern tiger salamander) that at first glance I thought was a snake due to the bright yellow coloring. By far the coolest Iv ever seen, very large 8-9" with the tale purple/black color covered with large bright yellow spots. Kept him for a week or so then released him back to the wild. Found out it is a threatened spieces and rarley seen in my are. Wish I had pics, was about 3 years ago.

I'm getting a tiger thanks to Kevin :D
Also I have fire salamanders in my garden. Very endangered species in my country.

Hey Lep care to share your source for the large tigers you mentioned?

Hey, Leppyplatyplatybleb. I have about 40 salamanders in larval form that might end up being ambystoma gracile. Cover shipping and I'll send you half of the buggers. Or try to, anyway - you can ask Kevin about my shipping skills. :(

Aside from that, I have a golden albino axolotl named Axolittle. He eats tadpoles, guppies, worms and pellet food. Had a toe bitten off at some point, and now he has a small cluster of toes where that one toe should be. I've only just begun dabbling and thought the axie was a good creature to start with. And maybe to end with. I DO like easy critters - hence the doradid fascination...
