I've been considering moving my little scomb into my biggest tank. Firstly, because my ATF will not let him eat; and secondly, the scomb is more likely to be broken off live in the 180 where EVERYONE eats market shrimp or tilapia chunks.

My only real concern (aside from the ever-present threat of a wolf attack) is the possibility that my Odoe will harass the scomb. I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but aren't Odoe's somewhat famous for their dislike of silvery fish?

Has anyone here kept a payara with an Odoe.

Thank for any input!
John

My Odoe didnt bother my payara at all, just the ATF's ... depending on the size difference I would say give it a shot ... Odoe are more upper water, payara are more towards the bottom in my experience, and shouldnt really bumb into eachother all that often ... main concern is if the odoe is much larger, 1 attack might be enough to kill the scomb, so keep that in mind

Well that's good to hear. In that case, the scomb just has to learn to stay away from my mala wolf. I don't forsee the Gar being any trouble, and my Clown knife really isn't that bad (although I have seen him nip at the Odoe once or twice during feedings).

The big challenge here is going to be getting the scomb to switch over to shrimp, and off of feeders. They have to possess basic survival instincts right? It wouldn't purposely starve itself of food just because it wasn't live right? especially if all the other fish in the tank are eating shrimp.... right?

Never say never ... sometimes fish will starve themselves, I've had especially bad luck with Datnoids and getting them on pellets ... and to be honest, hearing the rest of the stock in the tank, I would be concerned ... watch closely for aggression, if he is stressed he very well could starve to death

I've been watching him pretty closely the past couple days. My ATF doesn't harass him, but his sudden movements really seem to make my Scomb nervous. I'd love move the scomb into my 120 again, but I fear for my new little Datnoid. I'd like to think that he couldn't fit him in his mouth, but from what I've read payara's can easily surprise you.

I would bet the wolf takes a swipe at that payara.

They feed on silvery fish that live in the riffles as adults.

Thats exactly what a payara is, and especially with their tendency to stay at the bottom I would be concerned.

Its an awesome tank, but its also a timebomb.

I want photos. FTS :D
