I been looking around my normal sources i also work part time at a pet shop and i can't seem to find anyone local or online selling black sand in bulk . Any suggestion deeply appreciated
 
its called black diamond blasting abbrasive or black beauty depending on where you live and technically its not sand its coal slag but completely safe. its like $8 a 50lb bag.. i used it all the time in my planted tanks

I don't think it is safe to use coal slag for substrate. Coal contains all kind of impurities such as heavy metals and organics that may not be safe for fish. Coal fire power plant is the most polluting energy source. The black sand that is safe for fish is from volcanic deposit.

Thanks still might try it been doing my research online and a lot of plant tank guys are using this product with great success so maybe worth a try for me ....
