Hey everyone, my girlfriend's been getting into Axolotls lately and we've been looking at a couple different sites for information about them but I dunno, feels like I'm reading a care sheet printed out by petco or something, kinda shaky on trusting it. Was wondering if you guys knew anything about them since this is pretty much the largest group of fish enthusiasts out there. Thanks in advance!

Well all i know is they are sold with water dogs due to looking the same but its VERY important not to confuse the two because one morphs quickly and randomly into a salamander and will drown if not given land while the other can live in water forever...

they are predatory and feed on insects and small fish. (don't feed them goldfish. only mosquito fish / guppies).

sorry i cant give you more info.

I've never seen them sold WITH "water dogs", but the two are commonly confused and mislabeled. "Water dogs" are larval Tiger salamanders.

Other than that, pretty much like a fish in care...like all aquatic salamanders, Axies like cool water (below 75). They eat worms, fish, pellets, etc...

Yeah, I would go with a 15 gal or bigger myself.

10-12" I'd probably use sand or fine gravel...they really inhale when eating, and I'd worry about swallowing stones.

I have 3 in a 40 gallon tank. They aren't the most exciting things, but they are cool looking. They really aren't that hard to take care of.
