And by that I mean, a living healthy (bonsai) cypress tree, not bark as substrate, and not dead wood as a decoration. As for species I specifically mean a terrestrial gecko, which of would course make bark as a substrate a no-no, and I am also aware that coniferous trees release aromatic (toxic) chemicals when stressed or dead. Do live cypress trees also release this and should I not be considering putting a bonsai tree in the gecko tank?

I know they have cypress mulch substrate for reptiles, snakes in particular seem to enjoy it and it holds moisture for humidity (shedding aide).
