I'm redoing my tank landscape, and have some rocks that I used a long time ago. Can't remember if they were in salt or freshwater. They look similar to the ones I have in my tank right now, but don't know what kind they are for sure, and if they're safe. Here's some picks I took. They are wet from soaking them, but dry they are greyish in color. Any comments would help.

I dont have a pot big enough to put the bigger one in, but maybe I could pour boiling water on it in a thick bucket. They came from a store a one time and were in one of my tanks a while back, just can't remember which one. So as far a chemicals, they are fine. Do you think dumping boiling water, or at least real hot water on them should be fine?

Yep the bucket thing works that's the same thing i do for big driftwood and rocks. Oh ya make sure its not a bucket that easily melts :grinno:

Just dowsed it. My bucket has pretty thich plastic, but hope it holds up, but that would be pretty crazy to see that big ass rock melt through the side of the bucket. How long do you norm wait to put the rocks in the tank after that?

Just got done cleaning the tank and removing tons of black algae. The water in the bucket is warm temp now so I'll takem out and let dry for the night then. Once the water clears up in the aquarium, I just have to figure out were to put them. Ive got alot of space to fill, but this should be it for rock. Just need more plants and driftwood, but I'll wait for my overhaul this spring when I switch the substrate to part sand/soil, part gravel. I've got some research to do as far as aquascaping. My tank is viewable from 3 sides and it gets tricky on where to set things without looking tacky. Thanks for the help.

that wont fit in your 3 gallon tank

Thats OK, because I have a 55 gallon, and If that doesn't fit, I'll put it in my 120g, and if, no, thats as big as I got.

Should be fine. Just make sure it's clean.
