I was wondering if anyone knew of currently practicing fish vets in in SoCal. I'm not sure if Dr. Bob Hildreth (he was in Irvine) if still practicing or not. Also, I saw Western Aquatic Animal Veterinary Service in San Diego. That's quite a long ways from me. I'm looking for a job, and have plenty of high quality experience in the veterinary field. I would really love to incorporate my two passions and put all my know-how together.

You're going to laugh at me, but most of those vets see a lot of birds, which I have a terrible fear of getting bit by! The birds know it, and they end up targetting me as a result. I grew up with a vicious parrot that has 800 lb of pressure per square inch behind that beak. He attacked me a couple times when I was young as well as several other people, and the damage he inflicted apparently stuck deep in my subconcious. Birds of all shapes and sizes need to stay several feet away from me! I'd be a terrible general exotics/ pocket pet tech as a result. Sure, I'll take on that 100 lb growling dog or your psychotic cat, but keep that 1 lb bird away from me! :screwy: Probably something I'd have to get over I guess if I want to work with a fish vet...

Thank you though Lupin!!

Good luck, sounds like an awesome job.

Interesting post. I didn't even know they have a job like that. Have you talk to Ichtology(Anthony)?

my vet by my dads pharmacy is always expanding he'll prob be VERY intrested. Look up Animal Hospital Santa Anna and talk to Dr. Coglin, tell him the Ikes son Adam sent you/told you to call, you know what i mean.

Yeah. Unfortunately, the only one I knew of at all remotely in the area sold his practice. I was hoping he has gone into doing house calls instead, but haven't found such luck yet. I believe I've talked with him before. I'd have to ask him to see if he knows of anything.

Is he an exotics specialist?

OMG, I don't know anyone else with a fear of birds aside from me! I didn't always have it. My when I lived with my husband's parents, they had a blue and gold macaw, and a military macaw, both not the friendly type so I knew to keep my distance. The blue and gold, she was only bonded to his dad. Everyone else had to get a broom to get her out. One day his brother brought home a beautiful Umbrella Cockatoo named CoCo. We were told she was the sweetest bird, and loved to be held and cuddled like a baby. Boy did she. They failed to tell us that when you stopped petting and cuddling she turned evil and would attack. My first time holding her she "purred" and talked and loved every minute. After about 30 minutes I attempted to put her back, and withing 15 seconds started flapping and flailing and biting. She ripped a gash from the left side of my nose down to my chin and then started on my back. I thought she just scratched bc it didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would. Gotta love endorphins. His mom knocked her off me and I ran out sobbing, scared out of my mind. Then I noticed the blood on my shirt. Thankfully I healed and no scars, but now I have a raging fear of birds. That bird would sit in his cage and come next to you while you watched TV, and start whispering, " I'm gonna kill you M** F**, I'm gonna cut your throat." And then start dancing saying "CoCo pretty bird, over and over." Creepy. When my husbands dad passed we brought the Blue and Gold home. Yay. We had her for a few months, and when we got a sack of bulk feed, it was contaminated and she died from it. I think she choked on a bone that after testing made up about 25% of the food. Don't buy from Hartz Mountain Corp. A friend gave us another Cockatoo, and we didn't know the food was what did it, and after eating it, he died as well. I felt horrible.

Needless, I am still scared to death of big birds. Small ones, I am fine, unless one flies in our works and swoops, I scream. lol.
Sorry to hijack ;)
