So I want to start a discus tank, just don't want to pay for adults. Anyone know where I could get some babies. I do know they need to be with the parents until there big enough. I'm a little nervous about ordering them from the Internet.

If this is your first time keeping discus, I wouldn't recommend starting with baby discus. Need lots of water changes to achieve proper growth or you end up with stunted fish. You will also lose a few as they begin to grow. If you are going to order from the internet, I would recommend Discus Hans.

+1 on what joe jaskot said, if you're a beginner, don't start with babies. its a big commitment to do all the water changes, testing, and multiple feedings a day. i'd start with bigger fish.

if you want more info look into simplydiscus.com

as far as where to get them, as many discus keepers will tell you, when you start out, it helps to start with good fish. i dont know how much you've looked into discus keeping but there are different grades of discus. grade can vary due to a few factors including coloration (how bright the colors are, how solid the color is if it's a solid colored breed), development of pattern (some discus will only develop patterns on half their bodies... these discus are graded less than their full body patterned counter parts), shape (the rounder the better. stunted fish will be oddly shaped-- like a football) etc.

so far the best recommendation i can give you for where to purchase your discus would be thru Kenny Cheung, you can google him i think he runs a website called kennysdiscus.com out of Daly City Ca. I've bought fish from him, he's a very reputable dealer. his fish are always good, and he even offers free advise. a lot of discus keepers will vouch for this guy.

So about tank setup, I have a 110 bow with a fx5, I plan on having it moderately planted. Since I will probably only be able to get 2 or 3 discus, what plecs or other community fish would be good to house with them.

You can start with 2" fish but just beware you will probably kill most of them. Of my initial 14 juvies I got a few years ago only 4 of them made it to adulthood and I gave 2 away because they did not look so good (low quality stock). I'm much better at raising discus now but that is with bare bottom and complete daily water changes and a few years under my belt. Also you should research discus more since you are considering only getting 2 or 3 discus which is not recommended.
