+1 on what joe jaskot said, if you're a beginner, don't start with babies. its a big commitment to do all the water changes, testing, and multiple feedings a day. i'd start with bigger fish.
if you want more info look into simplydiscus.com
as far as where to get them, as many discus keepers will tell you, when you start out, it helps to start with good fish. i dont know how much you've looked into discus keeping but there are different grades of discus. grade can vary due to a few factors including coloration (how bright the colors are, how solid the color is if it's a solid colored breed), development of pattern (some discus will only develop patterns on half their bodies... these discus are graded less than their full body patterned counter parts), shape (the rounder the better. stunted fish will be oddly shaped-- like a football) etc.
so far the best recommendation i can give you for where to purchase your discus would be thru Kenny Cheung, you can google him i think he runs a website called kennysdiscus.com out of Daly City Ca. I've bought fish from him, he's a very reputable dealer. his fish are always good, and he even offers free advise. a lot of discus keepers will vouch for this guy.
