so i got this filter with my tank from previous owner, he said it is a chlorine filter.... he said when he had the tank and all when he filled it all he ever used was this filter he never added anything in the water to dechlorinate ( i have seachem safe powder ) and love it.... but ive been using the filter when filling up the tank anyway but still do treat the tank with Safe... i havent got a clue how to open it to check the filter itself inside to see if it needs replacing or anything.. ive tried holding it and turning the top but i get nothing lol ... there isnt really any part number or model number on this thing.... any help would be great... and the previous owner had LOADS of money so im sure he spared no expense

It looks like a filter you would use in conjunction with an RO/DI unit and/or for a drip system. The blue part should unscrew from the lid, though you may need a special wrench to loosen it. I believe that the filter carterage inside does need to be replaced occasionally but don't know how often.

Looks like somethin from a RO/DI system

it VERY big too, prolly 16" tall and like 6" diameter..... am i getting any benefit when re filling my tank after water change ? or is there another way or source as to use'ing this filter ?

Ya normal water filter depending on filter inside depends on what it is. I bet a normal carbon filter.

looks like a ro/di filter but prolly full of carbon. awesome for a drip system.

so then if i went to like a water purifying store or pool or spa place, i could likely get a filter for inside of it to replace the one i have to take out chlorine and heavy metals ? or should i just toss it ??

I don't know about a pool store since that's made to remove chlorine which you want in pools and spas, but I know that the Lowes by me sells them and there are plenty of places online to get them from too.

hmmm, ya i still gotta figure out how to open mine up to see what it like inside and to get right size replacement lol .... it on tighter then a mother trucker
