I am very interested in plywood tanks, I have noticed though that they are not as cheap as one may think after all the materials. What have you guys come up with for cheapest ply tanks. The two most expensive things are the liner or epoxy type substance everyone uses as well as the glass. Im not too familiar with epoxy like products and I know they must be fish safe so what have you guys come up with. As for glass I believe I could find a used 150 or similar tank to get the glass from that would be cheaper than most glass shops. I was also wondering could you skip the epoxy, I assume it would cut down on the life of the tank but would it be possible? I'm currently renting and just want a temporary large tank anyways. Could you just use lot of silicone on the corners and have it hold? Also has anyone tried pond liner, I would figure it would work but it'd be tricky around the glass? Id like ideas guys!!!

Have you looked on craigslist? There are usually a few "larger tanks" 200gal - 240gal for cheap! If you want a temp tank i would just buy a used one!

I agree, Craigslist has hooked me up pretty well, Im just interested in the idea of a plywwod tank and would like to know if anyones experimented and made one at a fraction of the cost of a comparable tank.

I think i have read somewhere on here before that after like 300gal it cheaper to build than to buy if that helps. Another member on here (who has built like 3-4 large the last one was like 1000gal) said it you cut corners on the build be ready for a wet floor!!!

haha, yea, its just most people seem to spend more money building these tanks than it would be to order off of glasscages.com

I am sure I could have bought a tank cheaper than I built mine, however..... Nobody has a tank like mine. The greatest part of DIY plywood tanks to me is the uniqueness, and satisfaction of building yourself.
