I just bought some tan colorquartz and its a little to reddish orange. Has anyone ever mixed a few colors? Got pictures?

I was thinking about mixing tan, brown, and buff.

I have been using pool filter sand, I like the variation of colors the of my pfs, but I wish it was a little darker. And before anyone mentions it I am not really a fan of black sand.

I have read in a thread that someone mixed a bunch of different color to get a nice natural effect.

Hopefully that person will chime in and has pictures, lol. I have been searching but havent found much of anything.

My camera does not take good close up pics so I don't have any to post. But I used a combination of black, brown, buff, smoke and white. I mixed a small batch, measuring each color individually, until I got the look I wanted and then mixed a large batch for the tank. The smoke was a little too blueish so I used it the least.

The disadvantage to using many colors is the cost of buying each color in 50# bags. I ended up using mostly the white & brown with black & buff mixed in to darken it somewhat.

I found this useful

Shows various colors, and recipes to mix others.

Here's the tan or red clay as I call it. I had 2 different lights in the first pic and you can see how the lighting really effects this color of 3m

I pulled 75% and covered it with PFS and after a few months the fish mixed it for me.
I don't have many pic's of the mixed sand.
