those laptops may need serious upgrades, which will cost you more money.

i duno i found them cheap thought might be good idea to p[ick one up for vacation to store pics maybe or to keep in tuch with mfk

They are way too old. For example at Dell for $550 (just 50 bucks more then the one you listed) you get double the memory, hard drive almost three times as big, CD/DVD burner, and a whole bunch of other stuff. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/inspn_1200?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

you could probably upgrade the harddrive and the memory but its not going to be
cheap. and even if you do the processing power is just too puny. Youre better off spending more cash for something more faster.

For media storage, those laptops will soon be packed. For the internet, again, you'll need to upgrade the machine or some software/program may not be compatible and fail to work.

To old and some models might not be upgradable. Hell most cameras sold today have more memory then those laptops. NOthings realy cheap anymore.

its not worth $400. for another $200-$300 you could get a much better one. check to see if there are any local laptop people to you. the best ones are the ones built from scratch. if not sony isent to bad or dell. stay away from compaq.
