Anyone own a channel cat?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a albino one. had him for about 2yrs now. about 2' long got him when he was 5-6" actually getting his own indoor pond soon. And ya mines like a vacuum to ill feed him 6 jumbo shrimp and massivore than try and feed the other fish theyre floating pellets but hell go up and steal all theyre food to. lol

They are tough and they grow as fast as any fish I have ever kept. All of the ones I have ever had tend to bully other fish, especially when they are eating. Cool, cheap fish.

mine bullys the other fish a lil bit but he wont eat the gold fish he grew up with. lol. there are 4 4-6" goldfish in with him that have been there sense he was little. Hell eat other feeder fish I put in for the gar but never the 4 he grew up with. Even one day accidently inhailed the smallest one while eating and spat it back up. haha

I hope mine never eats my oscars. The O's are 10 inches now. The channel cat is 5 inches. It was 3 inches when I got it. I was a little worried the cat might get eaten but my oscars never tried to eat their smaller tank mates.:)

my old oscars ate everything they thought would fit in their mouth...my channel cat got its head stuck i a chunk of wood and died...i recomend you don't give yours that chance...as their peck fins bend one way, but not the other way...

I don't have a channel cat cause they get too big for me. But I did catch a baby black bullhead cat, he's about 3in and is growing fast, also he's a food vac too :)

Not to de-rail but my oscar just ate my new redtail cat. Add it to the arowana and that's 50 some odd dollars that fat jerk stole from me. To think that he was 4 bucks and he's cost me so much.

Channels definately seem to get less shy as they grow. I've seen some large ones that would eat from a person's hands. I guess it makes sense for the fingerlings to be more cautious by instinct.
