Anyone own alligator snapper

Had one i found at a pond once..maybe 35 40lbs...i actually was driving an rc boat at ran him over then flipped my boat..went into the pond for my boat and he was stuck to the filter head by some fishing string..scared the crap out of me when i went to retrieve the boat he tried to snap me..anyway i gave him to prehistoric pets after about a week of him smelling up the koi pond

Woh! You found one here locally? How big was it when you have it to prehistoric cuz theirs are pretty big now.

Edit: haha I just realized that you said 30-40lbs. I've seen some people put them on sale on craigslist but within a few days, their ads are removed. I wonder if fish and game have them **** about it.

I have two Alligator Snappers. One is about 9 years old, 16 inches and about 35 lbs. Had her since she was a hatchling. Spring through summer she lives in my backyard pond. Fall and winter I move her to a stock tub in my garage. Also have a little Golden Shell that I acquired this year. He resides in a 20 long. Fun species to keep if you can afford the eventual space they need.
 
9 years old and 16 inches? Is this normal I heard they grew fast but is it grows fast till x amount of inches / years then slows to a crawl? I would love one but it's not a pet my kids could pet lol

Pretty much. Like any animal, they grow fast when young but then slow down drastically. All the huge ones we see on TV are usually like 30-50 years old
