I have a Fahaka, about 8" and just got an Mbu about 3". I have a colony of marbled crays and MTS but know I need more and am going to buy as little as possible from the grocery. Do any of you guys raise freshwater clams to feed your puffers? (Corbicual sp.) The literature says they get about 2" and if they grow fast enough I was hoping I get grow a good amount in a 20L. I have read just enough to get my curiosity going. I am looking for them to grind the beaks as much as a food source. Any experience you can share would be appreciated.

Im pretty sure i've read is more hassle than jts worth getting any clams to breed, since they require constant green water as a food source which can be tricky to maintain...

But, if you have a way to maintain a greenwater tank as a food source for them it maybe worth looking more into it...

The problem with that plan is that in order to feed a puffer that size, you would probably need ten times the gallonage of feeder tanks than you would for the one actual puffer.

Trust me: There is no way any person will be able to raise enough of your own crayfish/shellfish to feed an adult giant puffer. They just eat too much. My Mbu eats 60lbs.+ of whole crayfish a year. Get a Plan-B; it does not make any sense to try toraise that kind of volume of food. Buy in bulk and freeze it works out best for me.
