So I've been curious lately, how well read is MFK? What do you read, if at all, and what are some of the things you've read but not enjoyed?

I read sci-fi/fantasy...Anything with a dragon, spaceship, wizard, lasers...
~ David Eddings
~ Dean Koontz
~ Frank Herbert
~ Anne Mccaffrey
~ Stephen King
~ etc

My current favorites are the Temeraire Series by Naomi Novik and Graceling by Kristin Cashore.

Anyone else?

Anyone ever finish the Orson Scott Card series of books base off Ender's Game? That one book was one of my favorites but never really got into any others.

I dont really read a lot. Maybe 1-2 books a year. But I am rolling through Game of Thrones. Currently almost done after a month. Plan on finish 1-2 more of the series before winter...

@ Oddball: Dresden was a good one. I think I read like 5 or 6 of them on my Kindle before they jumped up to 8-9$ apiece and I stopped. Have you watched the series they did some years back? Its on Netflix. Check it out if you haven't. Haven't read the Codex Alera but have been wanting to check it out, is it up to par?

@Greg31: I've read Ender's Game and always meant to get back to that series. Orson Scott Card is great. Have you read his "Map in a Mirror?" Its a collection of all of his short works. Some awesome stories in that one! I started "A Game of Thrones" and honestly loved it but never finished it. Same with "Red Mars." Started it but never finished it.

@mr fishy: The Hunger Games was FANTASTIC!! Can't believe I forgot that one in my initial list. I've started her other series "Gregor the Overlander" or some such. Its very interesting so far (2 chapters in). Check it out!

I generally chew through two or three novels a month, depending on size, intended audience, etc... does anyone read YA books? I've read a couple good series: "Keys to the Kingdom" by Garth Nix (those were 1 1/2 a week, during school, lol, easy read) and I owe my reading career to Brian Jacques and his Redwall series. I hated to read before I read "The Pearls of Lutra."

Mccaffrey and Eddings are great authors. In fact, in MccAffrey's case, I'd say she is one of the standards against all others can be measured.
Some of my other top authors are Alan Dean Foster, Jack L. Chalker, Dave Duncan, Linda Nagata, Robert Jordan, Robert Asprin, Joel Rosenberg, L.E. Modesitt, Roger Zelanzy, Piers Anthony, Holly Lisle, Steven Brust, and Lawrence Watt Evans
These are people with multiple books that I greatly enjoy. there are thousands more from whom I've only read one or two like Daniel Pinkwater's Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy from Mars.
Or Ender's War. Great book, but I tried two others from OSC and they weren't bad, but they didn't impress me as much as Ender's War.

one of my favorite authors is Terry Brooks. Sword of Shannara series, Magic Kingdom for sale/sold. Both good if you like Dragons, wizzards, Dark Over Lords :D

Heh, I am in the process of cleaning up my books, this is about half of what I read in the last 15 years or so...

A lot of different stuff...some work related, but mostly interest only.
