Stumbled across this picture today. Allegedly this set of terribly hooked teeth was found in a can of Russian herring. While I'm not sure that I buy that story, I am immensely curious as to what sort of critter this set of chompers might have belonged too. I can't think of any fish off hand that these look like they'd belong to, but they certainly do bear a striking resemblance to the teeth in the lower jaw of a dolphin or porpoise.

Dolphin teeth are pretty peg-like, while these are quite recurved. I would say probably salmon.

Ah, didn't even think of Salmon, though they do make sense! Good eye, Dan! As I suspect that this is a faked image, the jaw of a fish that would be local to many Russians does make sense as an obvious choice to plop into a can of herring meat in order to produce a shocking image like this.

Had to google Russian Hearing to see if it looked anything like that. Saw other pictures of that same can of fish found where someone else mentioned Wolf Hearing which has some nice teeth but nothing like that..

Good call Dan. I went looking and the picture matches the lower jaw of the Kamchatka salmon.

Yup it's a salmon.
