As some of ya know, already lost my power 36 hours ago. Gonna try to grab a UPS tomorrow. Not sure what to get though.....

Imo it's a waste. Unless you're spending a couple thousand dollars, you're only going to be able to run for 1-2 hours max. Better off picking up a high wattage inverter and connecting to a car battery

Ok, I thought thats what I was gonna hear. What about an inverter? Any suggestions?

At this point, the highest wattage would be best. With a higher wattage you could also run things in the house if needed depending on how much fish equipment. I have a 200 watt inverter running my air pumps in my 2 tanks and to charge mine and my parents' phones. I put all the bb in the tanks

+1

Those office UPS units are not going to work on a tank unless you going to spend a fortune every 2 years. Remember, they do need the batteries changed themselves, and most store brands lose their storage capacity in about that time. I have an APC brand one that's about the size of a Dell MicroATX desktop computer. It's display says it can run my office workstation for 4 hours, but when we lost power for 2 weeks last year in the Sierra mountains (helicopter crash tool out the the main lines) it lasted about 40 minutes before the generator was needed to recharge it. The same unit now hooked up to my 55gal tank with 2 Rena XP3's and an air pump tells me it will run for 30 minutes. I'm afraid to check it's actual run time, and that doesn't include the heater.

All that unit is good for was running the pilot light on our tankless water heater for a day or two.

Its good to have a game plan for this. In my case I have a gas water heater that does not require electric to keep the pilot light going so I have warm water to keep temps up. Then I have a battery back up air pump by Penn-Plax that will automatically kick on and I keep lots of batteries on hand. I pretty much know my bb will be shot but at least I have the water circulation and temp under control so it would basically be a matter of cycling out the tank again when the power is back up.

sponge filter powered by battery air pump. Extra Batteries!!!
cover tank with some blankets.
stop feeding. most can fast for a few days, some for weeks in the wild.
be careful but i have put a small oil lanterns under my tanks to keep them warm during an outage. be careful.
get a small UPC for power surges and minor few minute outages. inverter or better yet generator for long outages.

Good Luck.
