Anyone running 2 different sumps on same tank?

I have a 265 gal and I run a 30gal sump and a 25 gal wet dry aquarium filter. Anyone ever do this kind of setup? Seems to work well, as long as the return pumps are syncronized properly. If not I have issues with one sump filling up and one running dry. Its a weird chess match but I think I got it down.

Sounds like a good way to burn up a pump.

A simple fix would be to drill both sumps and connect them with a small pipe to balance the water level between the two. I've seen plenty of pictures of this type of setup
