this is a picture of my male istlanums mouth ,at first glance it looks like there is something in his mouth but if you look closely it looks more like teeth or gums , i've had plenty cichlids that have had teeth but never looked like this and it's only appeared in the last week, do you think it's maybe some kind of growth, it seems to be more pronounced on the side of the fish that you can see.
i've left the picture large so you can see better, it's the best pic i can get with the fish in the tank.

I had the same thing on one of my texas cichlids but he had some white fuzzy growth on him too. I think it was columnaris and treated him with salt and lowered temps.

i've added some salt to the tank and i was going to add some waterlife myxazin but it seems to be going down now so i will just keep a close eye on things i don't' want to start adding medications to the tank unless i have to.

I wouldnt add any medication unless absolutely necessary. Just drop the temperature to mid 70s, to slow down the bacterial spread, and add 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons. Keep his tank extra extra clean with lots of water changes to get rid of the bacteria that may be in tank. You can also do a salt bath which I think made the biggest difference. 14 1/2 tablespoons of salt in 2 gallons of water is the ratio I used.

looks like cotton mouth, if it is it is a nasty disease... i lost six fish in my community tank! treated with an antibiotic i got from your us of a! myacin 2 as its a negative bacteria if i remember correctly... id it and catch it early if it is... good luck!
