Just finished watching monster croc hunt on nat geo.
It was a follow on show after the monster croc known as LoLong was caught (20' 3" croc) was caught in the Philippines. This took place after a 2 year long killing spree by a man eating croc.
The issue was, they flooded lolongs stomach to see if any remains of keretine based human attributes I.e fingernails, teeth remained in the stomach as stomach acid cannot dissolve keretine based product.
Nothing was found. They started searching and found a croc slide that would indicate a croc of 40'!!!!:eek::what::sly:
Sightings were researched and one thing was found in common with all the sightings.
They all presented a croc in the 40' range.

I also watched another program (the name eludes me atm) which showed a photograph taken on a phone of the back of a croc which was half submerged under water. based on the size of plates on its back. It was estimated it was also within the 40' range.

Coincidence much??? lol
I don't personally believe in coincidence and also, IMO, it is plausible for such a croc to exist. The part in which the sightings took place is a dense area and so presents many a hiding place. LoLong hid here for a long time so I don't see a reason a bigger croc couldn't.

The main thing which got me was that monster croc potential obviously comes from genes. It's a potential that this bigger croc is lolongs bigger bro!:D

Crocs have been protected there a very long time so it does coincide quite well.

Thoughts?

Hard to believe any animal is protected in that area of the world...Interesting story nonetheless.9

Yeah I get you. Quite sad really. However, that being said, LoLong proves that big crocs definitely exist

if its really 40 ft then the modern saltwater crocodile suddenly began competing with deinosuchus, sarchosuchus, purussaurus, and rhamphosuchus for the title of largest crocodylian to ever live. I think those estimates are a little generous, especially considering a 20+ footer is consider uncommon and large these days. the problem with photos is even if they are not photoshopped they can be misleading without an object of known size right next to the animal. lots of people who want to brag on a fishing trip just hold their catch out in front of then for the camera to make it look bigger. Cool idea but i doubt any crocs in this day and age get to 25 ft, let alone 40

Exactly what I thought until I realised there estimations were based on a few trees also in the pic, the Croc slide and a sighting that was right next to a bridge

it's threads like these that make me miss Darius coming in condescendingly to educate everyone with his input while shutting down opposing input

Although your correct it would be competing with its prehistoric counterparts, keep in mind, we are talking about 1 single individual, not the whole species. We know that genetically, genes can be carried but not be active so what if a gene for higher levels of growth hormone made its self present in this individual? This crocodile would be easily 70years+
This would put its early stages in life during a point where the area was sparsely populated, increasing the food count and decreasing the stress count.
We now know that a crocs early stages is where it is decided whether its potential for growth is achieved or not.
It is very possible this croc could exist as crocs don't stop growing until they die.
Just food for thought.
Also, this would be a single individual. A freak of nature so to speak

haha that would be cool. Would be nice to learn something new from a more educated individual.
