Has anyone been able to get in the creeks yet?? its been raining in Indiana seems like forever, the river was out, busted the levee, and flooded all the bottomland. Of course the creeks are like whitewater rafting territory. Ill be so glad when it stops long enough for me to get a few darters, and maybe a YOY longear to raise again.

I've been dipnetting since the beginning of April for mudminnows and dace. Now that it's finally warming up more the darters and minnows should be running into the streams en masse not too far in the future. Seining isn't legal here so I don't bother with it.

Ive been dip netting here in nj:
4 bluespotted sunfish @ 2"
3 redbreast sunfish @ 2"
countless bluegill @ 2"
unidentified pickerel @ 2"

Thats a good haul Brandon, The bluespots are my favorite, never caught any myself, they are out of my range, but i bought a few from a Vendor a few years back, and really enjoyed them. If you could post up a pic of the pickerel, im sure someone could id it for you.

Great avatar, beautiful species!!

Thank you, that was a fish I had about a year or so ago. I just caught a bull of a male mudminnow @ about 4.5-5 inches last weekend. He was in transport for about 10 hours since I caught him at the beginning of the trip early in the morning so he got a little columnaris/secondary fungal infection on his dorsal so I've been quarantining him in a 2 gallon bucket with a bunch of sphagnum moss and a decent dose of sea salt. He's almost fully recovered and eating minnows like a pig :) I also caught a few tadpole madtoms which I found literally buried in mud in undercut banks where riparian grass roots prevent total erosion of the stream bank. In a month or so the Iowa darters should be running up that creek as well, so I've got to go back for some of those!

I would love to spend a week with someone like yourself, in the creeks everyday, i know i would learn a lot and also force myself to buy lots more tanks.

I'm in Hoosierland myself and understand what you mean about the rain... got a creek behind my house and the water levels have been too high to get to it safely... Thinking about trying out a native tank at some point myself, depending on what I can fish/net up back there...
