Hey jw if anyone here has tried breeding nile tilapia. I know they grow fast and found a website that can get me some so i was wondering.

THANKS!!!

Not in CA since Tilapia (new: Oreochromis) niloticus is an illegal species in CA. Sorry. As far as breeding them, I've found them to be easier to breed than convicts and they can start breeding at a very young age/size.

If you search the web I am sure you will finds loads of info as this fish was bred intensively in Lake Kariba and other places a few years ago.

They're also the "In" species to raise in Mom & Pop type operations in the US for the past few years. Large hatcheries are even offering batches of fry on eBay as growouts to anyone wanting to try making a buck or two selling market size tilapia from a small investment.

dam i wish i could....cuz convicts are easy and i heard tilapia are easier and grow faster...damn CA

Yeah, in Siavonga, Zambia the fingerlings are cheap as chips and grown by hotels in the lake as fresh fish for the menu. You order fish and chips and A guys runs to the edge of the water and nets one, takes to the kitchen and bam it's on your plate.
