I've done a bunch of digging around, and found out that Krylon Fusion is aquarium safe. I'm putting egg crate in the bottom of my 125 before I put sand, rocks, heavy/huge pieces of driftwood down to stop the potential for cracking...

When using this stuff, does everything have to be perfectly covered, or will it cure/adhere just fine if it's "mostly coated"? I'm just trying to get rid of the blinding white, since the substrate will be tahitian moon sand...

Also, Rustoleum makes a stone fleck product for indoor/outdoor use - I wanted to use some of this to cover clay pots.. Does anyone know if this is also aquarium safe, if you leave it cure for about a week?

Thanks!

First of all, how thick or tall is the egg crate because if it isn't that tall, your substrate will cover it. If you're worried about the front part of the egg crate being shown, just trim it and push to the back. That way the substrate will get between the egg crate and the front of the tank. Hope this helps, The Doctor

It's 1/2" thick, and my fish are diggers... One of my pictus has a strange fondness for bare glass..

Search around some more, there's a place that sells black eggcrate. It's called lighting supply house or lighting depot or something like that. They have a website and ship, I just can't find where I saw the link

I like the Stone fleck paint on the back outside of my tank. It looks like sand when viewed from the other side. I wouldn't use it in the water in my tank though.

I've used Krylon Fusion in flat black on my white egg crates for just the same reason you want to--I have Tahitian Moon Sand and diggers too. Its been in there since November and no problems what so ever.

Can't comment on the Rustoleum though.
