I was in my LFS and this guy was bragging about his Pbass. He was bragging about how much they have grown in 6 months.Anyway I asked him what he was feeding them and he listed most of the normal stuff then he said raw chicken. He said he trims the fat off and cuts it up into chunks and that they go nuts for it.

Has anyone tried this? Does anyone do it?

I think it goes back to the warm blooded to cold blooded idea. There are fats in chicken (inside the meat) that a cold blooded fish may have a hard time digesting. I still can't see that it would be horrible for them though.

yeah it's risky...i wouldnt wanna do it... my cichla are happy on bloodworms, home made beefheart and feeders...HOWEVER, if sum1 is game enuf to try it and it worx i'll give it a lil go! why not..

We feed lean chicken meat to all of our fish occasionally (Including 15 Pbass). Have for about 30 years now so if it was going to harm a fish....I probubly would have noticed by now....

did u notice any growth spurts!? i heard that all chickens unless on a farm are injected with steroids to make them grow faster/larger...wouldnt that play havoc with fish?

What part of the chicken do you feed? I am considering the breast. Seems like the leanest part to me. Darkmeat (thighs or leg) seems more oily and has more fat.

We don't buy inhanced meats of any kind. We raw feed 2 wolves and 7 large dogs...(about 300lbs per month or so.) so we've very careful about the quality of our meat.

I feed the fish only breast meat...or chicken hearts. Usually about one day a week in our normal rotation.

The cold blooded/warm blooded argument falls on it's face because all of our cold blooded snakes feed on nothing BUT warm blooded prey.

Opportunistic feeders like Pbass tend to eat anything that falls into the water.
