Was wondering if anyone here has tried the inline Lifegard filters? i'm thinking of adding the Mechanical filtration module to my existing frshwater setup.
The only thing I'm running right now is a Wet/Dry, with a Mag Drive 700gph return pump. While the tank is very stable, and has excellent bio filtration, I would like to add something to remove smaller particles than my sponge and cloth filters on the wet/dry unit. But are these filters worth the money, or should i go a different route?
I have a 120g tank but have very limited space to hang filters, only supply lines, since its built into a wall, and only have access to one 18" side. My overflow already takes up 8" of that, and the 2x4 framing over the tank takes up another 6". The lifegard filters seem like theyd be perfect since i would only need to running supply/return lines, and mount/hide everything under the tank.

You might want to consider a Whole House cartridge filter. They are cheap to install and maintain.

I have one that I used for WCs. It would probably be OK as an extra filter, but you might be better off just to pick up an AC70 or AC110 for additional mechanical filtration. It would probably do just as well.

I've went through 3 lifegaurd fluidized bed filters. Lets just say I'm not impressed with their quality. After the first one sprung a leak and emptied several gallons of water on my floor...they did send me 2 to replace it. Both of those have since bit the dust. So, go from there. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback. Ive seen these on the market for at least 10+yrs, but haven't considered one until now. Leaking? I definitely dont want another leaking problem. I think I'll pass on the lifegard then.
The AC70 and AC110 aren't ringing a bell. Who makes them, and are they just a filter housing you connect a pump too?

Oh yeah, the AC70, I have one hanging on my reef tank. They do work good.
However, it won't work with my 120g FW setup. Don't have room to hang any filter off the tank, since its in a wall and can only run ins/outs from 1 18" side. My overflow takes up most space there. So mainly looking for something to hook up to intake/return lines and pump. Wouldn't mind getting a Flu-bed filter, but mainly looking for finer mechanical right now. My wet/dry seems to be good for the bio filt.
Ive seen OCEAN CLEAR filters around, look like a much bigger ver. of the mechanical Lifergards. They r spendy, but wouldn't mind dropping the cash if they work (and don't leak:D)
Or, do you think I should head into another direction?
