I already have a mag18, was wondering if it would be better to run 2 mag18's or 1 mag24. The tank is 360 gallons and the sump is 125 gallons. Tank is drilled and has 1.5" bulkheads attached which i converted to 1" pvc. Kind of regret only using 1" pvc now. Please advise.

What size are your drains? I would not over power your overflow, it becomes noisy and the potential flood could occur if they can't keep up.

If your drains can handle it, I prefer running 2 pumps in case one fails you still have the filter going with the other but then again I rarely see magdrives fail on their own.

the 2 drains are 2.5" fitted to 1.5" bulkheads fitted to 1" pvc. I opted not to use overflows due to the space they take up and all my fish are huge and wont get sucked into the drains which have caps/strainers on them anyways.

I have a supreme hydrive 4800 and a mag 24. I have 2 2" drains though. The mag 24 is hooked to a uv on a timer and runs 4 hours a day. It sounds like Niagra Falls when that second pump kicks on. I would definately run 2 smaller pumps instead of one big one though just incase one fails

definitely planning on running 2 pumps now. Think my drains can handle 2 mag18s without me having to adjust my ball valves? I dont mind adjusting them, but it would be cool to have that much flow. there's going to be around 5' of head, so I'm expecting each mag18 to be pushing over 1150 gph.

what about running a laguna max flo 2900?? the mag 24 pump uses 265 watts of power. where the laguna 2900 only uses 130watts?? thats hafl the power and flowing more gph?? how come the laguna pumps arent popular for aquariums?

I've never used laguna and my parents pay for the power bill =]. I'm thinking about going back to the mag24 single pump idea. 2x 1" drains should give me around 960gph each and I'll have around 4.5-5 feet of head which would yield 1850-1925 gph flow from the mag24.
