Anyone use Nu-Clear Canister Filters

Tried to search for post but the search function is garbage but i have been looking at these guys to use for larger tanks so i dont have to use 2-3 fx5's

With a set up like this you could almost never have to mess with the media canister and only have to clean the 100micron filter when needed. Plus it looks killer..

Man, I had to read that twice. It's early, and I thought you were asking about nuclear canisters, not nu-clear canisters.
 
Thanks for the Post ... how do you guys feel these things perform next to an Fx5 .. side by side do you see it as equals or is one better then the other ...
 
Fosters and smith has the Fx5 Price: $305.99 but amazon has them for $215.95 and about the same price on e-bay ... which is much less then they used to be ... so for the price i am not so sure that the Nu-Clear are that much of a savings so i wanted to know if they are a better system and worth the money if so.
 
I've been looking at these to add to my system. I think it is hard to judge them on price against the FX5 as the Nu-Clear filters don't have its own motor like the FX5, they require an external pump.

I'm thinking about adding these to my return lines. I've been told that they 25 micron pad will polish the water crystal clear.
 
I just bought 2 ocean clear canisters (which are the same just a little cheaper), and a gen-x pump for my 180.
 
I've used to run a mix of Nu-Clear and Ocean-Clear filters on my 225. I like both makes of filter as most of their parts are interchangeable, but I find servicing the Ocean-Clears much easier than the Nu-clear. The Ocean-Clears have a plastic spin-on lid that makes sealing the filter against leaks more "fool-proof" than the stainless steel clamp and compression screw arrangement on the Nu-clear. I now use the Ocean-Clear filters only, as I sold the Nu-clear to a friend.

You can't really compare the nu-clear to an FX5. An FX5 is an all around canister filter that does basic mechanical and biological (and chemical, if you want!) filtration and includes a pump and plumbing. The standard Nu-clear is just pure mechanical filtration, requires that you buy a separate pump and rig your own plumbing. They seem to be designed to work best with sumps (after the pump) for water polishing.
